Theodore Roosevelt published The Winning of the West in four volumes between 1889-1896. The Winning of the West tells the story of the westward expansion of the United States
Winning of the West
from the Allegheny Mountains to the Pacific Ocean in the late 18th century. Roosevelt's work is based on government documentation and supported by personal anecdotes of backwoodsmen. He discusses the natural elements of the western frontier as well as the struggles of the backwoodsmen against the Spanish, French and Native Americans, supporting the benefits of aggression in settling the United States.
