ournalist Ernie Pyle reported on World War II in his U.S. syndicated column which appeared in 400 daily and 300 weekly newspapers worldwide at the time of his death. Collections of these pieces appeared in several books, including the best-selling Here is Your War. This compilation included columns covering the Allied campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France. The columns covered most branches and ranks of service, but Pyle was best known for chronicling the lives of infantrymen and speaking on their behalf.
