since 1925, the Thomas Paine Memorial Museum, located in New Rochelle, New York, has served as headquarters for the Thomas Paine National Historical Association. Founded January 29, 1884 in New York City, the association perpetuates the memory of Thomas Paine, disseminating the record of his public service and preserving memorials of his life and work. The museum was the initiative of association president William van der Weyde and vice-president Thomas Alva Edison.

Thomas Paine Memorial CottageThe Thomas Paine Cottage was originally located on a nearby site given to Paine by the State of New York in 1784, in recognition of his service in the cause of independence. The Paine Monument, erected in 1839, is located near the Cottage.
