Betty Friedan attended Smith College, an all-female school, from 1938-42. In 1957, fifteen years after graduation, she sent a survey to fellow classmates from the class of '42. The results of this survey and other research led to the writing of The Feminine Mystique, published in 1963. Papers by Betty Friedan and other feminist writers, including Germaine Greer, Kate Millett, Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem, amongst others, are available in the Women's Liberation Collection, found in Smith College's Sophia Smith Collection.
