BIOGRAPHY OF MARK FARKAS

Mark Farkas is the Executive Producer of C-SPAN's American Writers II: The 20th Century series, C-SPAN's fifteen-week historical series examining the lives and works of selected American writers who influenced the course of our nation's history.

American Writers II is Farkas' fourth historical series for C-SPAN. From March 1999 - January 2000, Farkas served as Executive Producer of C-SPAN's Peabody Award winning series American Presidents: Life Portraits, a 41-week series exploring the lives of America's leaders. Farkas was also lead producer for the network's '98 series on the American journey of French author Alexis de Tocqueville, The Alexis de Tocqueville Tour; and the '95 series on the Lincoln-Douglas Debates, a re-enactment of the 1858 senate debates between Abraham Lincoln and Senator Stephen A. Douglas.

Farkas has been employed with C-SPAN for over 18 years. He began his career at the public affairs network in 1984 as a Field Production Manager and Director. Over the years, he has worked on a variety of projects including C-SPAN's election night coverage for the '96, '98 and '00 elections, and special programming on presidential inaugurations, life inside New York's Sing Sing prison, Native American culture and steam-boating on the historic Delta Queen. Throughout 1993 and 1994, he went on the road with the C-SPAN School Bus to produce a series of segments on history, culture and America. He has also traveled internationally for C-SPAN's coverage of the British House of Commons, and to Japan for the network's look at the Japanese Diet.

A native of Virginia, Farkas is a graduate of the College of William and Mary. Before joining C-SPAN, he worked in production at Tribune Broadcasting.
