Sample Letter to Education Leaders

Dear (Name of Education Leader):

As part of our ongoing commitment to education and public service, (name of system) is pleased to provide the C-SPAN networks to our customers and announce its latest historical television series—American Writers II: The 20th Century.

From March to July 2002, C-SPAN will look at the lives and works of selected American writers who have chronicled, reflected upon or influenced the course of our nation's history and explore what their works mean to Americans today.

In this series, C-SPAN, airing on channel (x), takes viewers around the country to historic sites, birthplaces and homes associated with the lives and works of these great American writers for a new live program each week. Travel to Harlem to explore the Harlem Renaissance writers including Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes. Visit Key West to discover the life and works of Ernest Hemingway. Learn about Neil Sheehan, David Halberstam and the Vietnam War writers in Washington, DC. Every program will feature writers' novels, speeches, diaries, essays and life stories, creating a snapshot of American history. American Writers II premieres on Sunday, March 31, 2002, at 3pm ET*. A new program airs each Sunday afternoon March to July 2002. To provide educators and others with comprehensive access to our programming, C-SPAN will re-air each week's program on Friday night at 8pm ET*. To learn more about the series, visit C-SPAN's web site at www.americanwriters.org.
